What We Do and How We Support Highcroft Elementary
As your child’s school counselors our job is to help students be strong emotionally and socially so they are successful in school. We offer many programs to help support them. These include:
Short term individual counseling- Parents and teachers can refer students, as well as students can refer themselves. We do not keep detailed notes of these meetings so we usually do not testify in court cases involving custody or divorce.
Small group counseling- These are groups that focus on social skills, school success, mindfulness, self-confidence and more. Students are usually referred by teachers or parents.
Classroom Counseling- Your child’s school counselor will visit and teach lessons in your child’s class. These lesson include topics such as learning how to focus, how to get started on tasks, how to manage strong emotions and how to problem solve. You can see the complete list of topics on our website.
Collaborative meetings- Sometimes your child’s teacher will ask us to attend a parent teacher conference to help support any needs your child may have. Or you may request an individual meeting with us to discuss any concerns you may have.
Coordinate outside referrals with parents for longer term counseling for children in need.
